It seems to me that it's because of the Quicktime with H264 slider, which looks like it does some sort of variable bitrate. Sometimes I actually encode to mpeg-1 instead and that's not right, I shouldn't have to resort to using an older codec to get rid of blockiness but I actually get better results. Also if I use Quicktime's movie to mp4 with H264 instead of movie to quicktime with H264, the movie turns out worse (very blocky at points).
I find a lot of movies come out desaturated. I wonder if the H264 update improves encoding performance. Let Windows users pay for Quicktime Pro but give us Mac users it for nothing. You'd think that Apple would do these things so that it's more beneficial to be on the Mac side. Obviously some people will feel differently, the point is I tried to form my opinion on far after my first reaction to it.Now the wait until all the Pro features just come free with Quicktime. Came back to it a day later and I’ve really grown to like it a lot. First reaction wow that’s different, didn’t expect that. More often then not I don’t feel much of the negative feeling that were initially present. I’ve learned to wait for that initial feeling to dissipate and then come back to the item in question with fresh eyes.
Everyone is guilty of it, including myself. Some designs will be “bad” but a lot of what is immediately expressed on the internet is usually due to the resistance to differences and change with something familiar. That can quickly turn to negativity, especially these days, where “hot takes” on design get easy clicks, likes, and upvotes. In that moment when you notice the change, most people will feel a little caught off guard because it’s not what they expected. It’s more of a “negative” reaction to “differences” in general.
